40th Anniversary for Winnipeg’s Prairie Sky Books!
Prairie Sky Books will celebrate its 40-year anniversary this month! The enchanting Winnipeg bookstore and boutique has been a cornerstone of the Wolseley neighbourhood since 1978.
October also signals the end of an era, as owner Grant Pastuck retires, and ownership transfers to longtime manager Aynsley Anderson, and her husband Campbell Martin.
“I’m excited and humbled to be the new owner of Prairie Sky,” says Anderson. “When I moved to this neighbourhood as a kid, this was the coolest place I’d ever seen! I always just knew I would work here, but could hardly allow myself to dream that I’d ever own it. I’ve been working here since my early twenties, and my friendship with Grant, and this store and all of its visitors and neighbours have shaped who I am as a person. It’s really an honour to be able to do this.”
The same incredible staff will remain at the shop, including 24-year employee Francine Martin, who will take over as manager. The store will also welcome back Ainsley MacDougall after a ten-year hiatus.
Prairie Sky will ring in their 40th anniversary on Saturday, October 20th from 10 am – 6 pm with an in-store celebration at 871 Westminster Avenue.
The festivities will include a $5 sidewalk sale, 40% off select items, snacks, and a gift basket draw.
In addition to books, Prairie Sky carries a great selection of unique giftware, jewelry, greeting cards, tarot and oracle decks, funky socks, eclectic home decor, specially selected vintage items, and beautiful imports from around the globe.
The store is especially well-known for its carefully curated books including titles on Buddhism, Meditation, Mindfulness, Yoga,
Self-Help, Teacher/Educator Resources, Indigenous Peoples, Children’s Books, and Fiction. The store also specializes in finding out-of-print books.
Visit Prairie Sky Books and see why it’s been a local favourite for 40 years!
Frequent visitors to our shop know that Prairie Sky Books is more than just books! We carry:
We’re always on the lookout for interesting items and our customers love that they can find unique pieces at Prairie Sky.
Of course we also carry many types of books at Prairie Sky. We are especially known for our carefully curated selection of books in the following categories:
Prairie Sky’s personal service, reasonable prices and commitment to interesting, unique products are key factors in how we’ve differentiated ourselves from other bookstores and boutiques.
In addition to our in-store operations, we also provide book displays at educational events.
We work closely with Winnipeg and surrounding area schools, helping teachers put together book lists, filling purchase orders for classrooms and libraries, and keep ourselves up to date on the curriculum considerations of The Winnipeg School Division.
Local legend, artist and author Jordan Van Sewell is one of Prairie Sky’s favourite folks. Legend has it that we sold his first ceramic piece back when he was in art school, so of course we’re thrilled to have his new book, “How I Got My Clown Shoes” in stock!
Featuring fantastical illustrations and rhymes that charm, this tale of a young boy’s first summer job will surprise and captivate kids and grown-ups alike.
Since 1978, Prairie Sky Books has been a destination shopping experience located in the Wolseley area of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. In addition to books, we carry eclectic home decor and housewares, beautiful imports from around the globe, unique giftware, jewelry, quality incense and Canadian-made soaps. We also stock clothing (including our very popular funky socks) greeting cards and an ever-changing selection of carefully curated vintage items.
When Prairie Sky first opened, we specialized in dharma, astrology, yoga, tai chi, tarot and other interests that, at the time, were described as New Age. Today, these are popular subjects that can be found on day time television and in fashion magazines.
But at Prairie Sky, we still carry the real thing!
Today our focus of interest includes Buddhism, Yoga, Meditation, Mindfulness, Indigenous Culture, Natural Health, Vegetarian and Vegan cooking, Astrology, Tarot, Occult and other conscious lifestyle material. We also have a great selection of resources for teachers and counsellors.
And there’s so much more in store! Come pay us a visit, we look forward to welcoming you!
