40th Anniversary for Winnipeg’s Prairie Sky Books!
Prairie Sky Books will celebrate its 40-year anniversary this month! The enchanting Winnipeg bookstore and boutique has been a cornerstone of the Wolseley neighbourhood since 1978.
October also signals the end of an era, as owner Grant Pastuck retires, and ownership transfers to longtime manager Aynsley Anderson, and her husband Campbell Martin.
“I’m excited and humbled to be the new owner of Prairie Sky,” says Anderson. “When I moved to this neighbourhood as a kid, this was the coolest place I’d ever seen! I always just knew I would work here, but could hardly allow myself to dream that I’d ever own it. I’ve been working here since my early twenties, and my friendship with Grant, and this store and all of its visitors and neighbours have shaped who I am as a person. It’s really an honour to be able to do this.”
The same incredible staff will remain at the shop, including 24-year employee Francine Martin, who will take over as manager. The store will also welcome back Ainsley MacDougall after a ten-year hiatus.
Prairie Sky will ring in their 40th anniversary on Saturday, October 20th from 10 am – 6 pm with an in-store celebration at 871 Westminster Avenue.
The festivities will include a $5 sidewalk sale, 40% off select items, snacks, and a gift basket draw.
In addition to books, Prairie Sky carries a great selection of unique giftware, jewelry, greeting cards, tarot and oracle decks, funky socks, eclectic home decor, specially selected vintage items, and beautiful imports from around the globe.
The store is especially well-known for its carefully curated books including titles on Buddhism, Meditation, Mindfulness, Yoga,
Self-Help, Teacher/Educator Resources, Indigenous Peoples, Children’s Books, and Fiction. The store also specializes in finding out-of-print books.
